History

The mining company was founded on 27 December 1855 by Sir Harrison, a former secretary of the Indian Steam Navigation Co. The company owned large beds of coal in the Damoodah Valley, Bengal. The East India Coal Company failed in 1866 due to heavy competition by the Bengal Coal Company.
